The Province of Barcelona (European Covenant of Mayors Coordinator) has just published the book "Renaturing Cities", to provide urban planners with support on the application of nature based solutions to city planning.
Currently, cities are struggling when it comes to offering citizens the quality of life they wish for. This is due on one hand to a planning of public spaces that is focused on unhealthy mobility pattners (use of private vehicles) and city zoning concepts, and on the other hand, to the scarce resiliance of urban centres to climate change.
Urban green spaces proved to be a useful tool to improve the quality of life in cities and to reduce their environmental footprint. This new publication (accessible in English, Spanish and Catalan) provides an overview of theories, strategies and measures to bring nature back to the city.
